It's been quite awhile but school is turning out to be harder than I thought it would be. That, and the fact that I've been really trying to make time for my friends and I was working every weekend in October. Thankfully, my work schedule is slowing down! So I'll be here more frequently.
With the little downtime I've had I found myself going to a copious amount of concerts. Which is my favorite way to pass time. Since I've last posted I've been to the following concerts: One Direction, Best Coast, Haim, and M.I.A. As I list them all, it doesn't sound like a lot but it has been making a major dent in my wallet. But it has been totally worth it!
So I'm going to write about the Haim concert!
Haim is a band of three sisters Alana, Danielle, and Este Haim and their drummer Dash Hutton. All three girls were raised in the San Fernando Valley to two musicians. At a young age, the girls started playing in a band with their parents. As the girls grew older the girls fenced off and formed what we know as Haim.
These girls have so much talent it's ridiculous. Their first album "Days Are Gone" was released September 27 of this year. It features 11 new and old-ish songs, all which are fantastic! Y'all should definitely check it out. Below is their funkiest song, be sure to give it a listen.
So in mid-October my best friend David and I drove from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara. The concert wasn't just a concert (if that makes ANY sense) it was a block party in Santa Barbara which had a stage and several different bands performing through out the day. The line-up was pretty long but we only got to see Haim + two other bands. Which the other bands were actually amazing. I say actually because usually when you're waiting for your desired band to perform you have to watch other dreadful acts or otherwise boring acts.
However! I discovered two new bands to add to collection of music interests. The first bands was FMLYBND. They had more of synthesizer sound to their music but nonetheless did a kick ass cover of Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart. The second band was Cayucas, which to me sound like Vampire Weekend. Which is an amazing band! I'll place a video of each band below. Enjoy!
Anyways Haim really knows how to put on a show, lemme tell ya! They performed most songs of their album, which a kick ass cover of Oh Well by Fleetwood Mac. Not only was that performance amazing because the prolonged use of the instruments, which really showed the audience their skills. BUT! It showed how well they got the crowd going, not many new the song but as soon as they did their thang holy shit, was everyone stoked.
I can't express how talented they are, at one point all three girl (if memory serves correctly) did drum solos! It was so amazing! I wish I would have recorded it with a good camera. But I didn't so I encourage each and everyone of you give their album a listen and take a trip (whenever chance permits) to a Haim concert.
Also, don't forget to check the other two bands out. They're pretty rad.
